A BEREAVED Haslemere resident is trying to ensure others do not have to suffer the impact of sudden serious diagnosis.
Having seen the success of a Prostate Awareness Roadshow held earlier in the year in Guildford, Roger Macdivitt vowed to give local men, over 45 years of age, a chance to find out if they showed early signs of prostate cancer.
A simple blood test now has a reasonable chance of indicating this cancer at a stage where treatment stands a very good chance of a cure. Currently, 47,000 men are diagnosed annually of which 11,000 die.
Roger had lost his wife to a gynaecological cancer which had also shown no early indicators and now hopes to spare others the shock of receiving such a diagnosis.
He approached The Rotary Club of Haslemere, which offered its assistance in laying on a roadshow in Haslemere.
The event takes place at The Georgian Hotel from 11am to 3pm tomorrow (Saturday) supported by Haslemere Hares charity project.
Trained phlebotomists will hopefully test 200 men who do not fit into current NHS testing programmes during four one-hour sessions and a booking system is available.
To book a slot call 01428 661356, leaving name, number and email address. Anyone who hasn’t pre-booked will be seen at the end of the sessions.
