Plans to convert part of the Bedford Road lorry park in Petersfield into a motorcycle training school have met with strong objections from town councillors. Despite having noise fears allayed by a recent site visit and demonstration, councillors believe the loss of space for lorries could have a knock-on effect for residents living near the town's car parks. Ken Hick told a meeting of Petersfield Town Council's planning committee this week: "The whole idea of the lorry park was to stop them using the Festival Hall and central car parks. It took a long time to get that lorry park." He said that engine noise from lorries in the early hours had caused major disturbance to residents living near these car parks. "I would object on behalf of residents, who could have HGVs parking near their homes with the engines running early in the morning," he said. Committee chairman Paul Molloy told members that he was completely happy with the noise aspect of the plans after a site demonstration last weekend. And members added they would welcome a motorbike training school in the town, but not at the proposed location. A final decision is set to be taken by EHDC next month.
