PETERSFIELD'S latest youth centre has raised more than £100,000 from a variety of local community projects, companies and organisations and is set to open next month.

Donations from churches, businesses and events like the popular SNAP discos at the Taro Leisure Centre helped the project quickly reach its aim of raising £60,000.

It is hoped that youngsterswill be able to start enjoying the no-alcohol pub in July at the converted factory unit in the Festival Hall car park.

The first-floor facility will provide young people with a place to meet, have fun and enjoy the many facilities that will be installed.

Team leader John Callaghan and centre manager Bill Pearce, who joined the project earlier this year, say they are delighted with the progress being made at the youth centre.

As well as a comfortable place to chat, youngsters will be able to take advantage of a computer suite, play pool and buy food and drink from a cafe bar.

There will also be a meeting room for a committee to discuss new projects and counselling facilities will also be on offer.

Mr Callaghan says the group is still aiming to raise more funds to pay for more equipment and facilities.
