WHITEHILL Town Council promises to make sure the town celebrates the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in style and has set aside £10,000 to mark the event in June.

Mayor Adam Carew said: "We have an exciting programme of events shaping up, involving the Army, the Whitehill and Bordon Town Partnership and a number of community groups.

"The programme is still in draft form so if any school or community group wants to be included in the free publicity they need to let us know now.

"Already, we have a commemorative tree plan-ting in Jubilee Park, a beacon lighting at Whitehill Village Hall, a party in the park, an Army medals parade, community golf and cricket matches, a fun run and the ever popular Whitehill Bordon Soap Box Derby. We have even commissioned The Phoenix to put on a play about the kings and queens who visited our parish.

"This will be a fantastic opportunity for the people of Whitehill and Bordon to come together and make this a year to remember."
