A PAIR of charities which help cancer sufferers have been left out of pocket following a "despicable" burglary at a pub in Steep.

Funds intended for The Rosemary Foundation and Macmillan nurses were stolen from The Harrow Inn early last Friday morning.

Callous thieves stole the money from various collecting tins between midnight and 8am after breaking into the bar area through a downstairs window.

The culprits also helped themselves to cigarettes, three homemade Christmas puddings, and funds belonging to a host of other good causes.

Police are appealing for witnesses and were due to send a forensics team to the legendary pub on Tuesday afternoon.

Petersfield Plants, Steep Tennis Club and a garlic producer were also among the victims as their cash was stolen in the raid.
