A CONTROVERSIAL proposal to build a terrace of three houses on the car park to the south of the Grey Friars Public House at Chawton has been given a firm 'thumbs down' by local planners.
In discussing the matter at last week's meeting, members of East Hampshire District Council's North planning sub-committee voted unanimously to refuse the application by Ashcroft Homes Limited on grounds that it would represent "an undesirable extension of development beyond the built up area of Chawton".
