A GREATHAM publican has been fined after admitting selling alcohol without a licence.

Kathryn Jones, 51, was fined £165 and ordered to pay £100 in costs after magistrates heard she had sold alcohol at The Great-ham Inn, in Petersfield Road, without a proper licence.

Ms Jones had worked at the pub for the previous licence holders, Greatham Inn Ltd, and took over when that company folded.

However, the premises licence ceased when Great-ham Inn Ltd dissolved.

Ms Jones closed The Greatham Inn after a police visit on July 29 last year.

She has since been granted a premises licence and has re-opened the pub.

Ms Jones, who lives at The Greatham Inn, was charged with two offences, selling alcohol and exposing alcohol to be sold on July 29 - for which she came before Aldershot magistrates last Tuesday, August 7.

Angela Howes, East Hampshire District Cou-ncil's principal licensing officer, said: "It is clear from this case that The Greatham Inn operated for a number of months without authorisation under the Licensing Act 2003.

"The penalty imposed on Ms Jones demonstrates the importance of checking, before selling or making alcohol available for sale, that you have a licence or temporary event notice that allows you to do so."
