AS January draws to a close, Alton Town Council is urging local people to put pen to paper and contribute their views to the Alton Town Plan.

According to town clerk Steve Parkinson, more than 1,000 people have already filled out the questionnaire, circulated to every household in the town via The Altonian magazine and available from other outlets, including the Town Hall.

Entitled Alton The Future - Your Choice the questionnaire invites residents to contribute towards a Vision for Alton in 2020.

ÒThe aim is to produce a vision of AltonÕs long-term future, as expressed by its inhabitants, in order to influence all those who make decisions affecting the town. Coupled with this will be an action plan identifying things to be done to ensure that the town develops to meet that vision,Ó explained Mr Parkinson.

The questionnaire invites comment on issues relating to the environment, future development community facilities, traffic and transport and shopping.

ÒIf we are to produce a genuine community vision, then it is important that as many people as possible participate. We need to hear your views if we are to succeed in building a future for our town,Ó stressed Mr Parkinson.

Anyone who has not received a copy of the Alton plan questionnaire and would like to contribute, can call in at the Town Hall or contact the council on 01420 83986.

Completed questionnaires should be returned to ATC via the Town Hall or via collecting boxes in the townÕs banks, school and supermarkets, at Alton Community Centre, Alton station and Holybourne post office.

The Alton Town Plan steering group is due to attend a meeting with Hampshire County Council officers on February 10 to look at how the data is to be analysed and turned into an action plan.
