A LANDMARK High Street pub will reopen under new ownership on Friday, December 4, following a six-figure refurbishment.
Leading UK hospitality group The Stonegate Pub Company, which owns more than 620 venues including the Slug and Lettuce and Yates brands, has just purchased The Swan Inn in Haslemere, from JD Wetherspoon. It will join their collection of more than 200 Great Traditional Pubs.
JD Wetherspoon, took over the business in 1998, but put the pub up for sale along with 19 others in prime town and city centre locations in June.
Wetherspoon appointed real estate company CBRE to handle the disposals and the sale of The Swan was completed on Monday.
The pub closed immediately for refurbishment works, which started on Tuesday.
“We are delighted to expand our estate in areas where we do not currently operate, such as Haslemere,” said Stonegate chief executive Simon Longbottom.
“We look forward to welcoming the team and customers to Stonegate.”
It’s also all change for The Mill Tavern, in Shottermill, which was put up for sale by Punch Taverns and snapped up in July by award-winning regional brewery Wadworth, famous for its 6X beer.
The Mill, which has just undergone a major refurbishment, will reopen on Friday, November 20.
Wadworth spokesman Paul Sullivan said: “The pub will be part of our managed estate, so will be run by the brewery and our award-winning operations team here.
“The pub falls into the ‘great pub, great food’ segment of the business. The emphasis being on the pub, but with excellent food to boot. The work undertaken will add more seating to the pub.
“We are very excited by the opportunity and hope that we can deliver something really special for Haslemere and bring the excellent range of ales from the brewery to a new audience.”
