YEAR four pupils at Hale School spent two days with an artist in residence, hand carving a magnificent wooden totem pole.
The art project, which was funded by a bid from The South Street Trust, was a great success and the children had a wonderful time, using specialised chisels and hand carving tools.
The idea of a totem pole came from the year four Cornerstones project entitled Road Trip USA, and will now be erected in the grounds of the school.
The artist in residence, Ruth Wheeler who ran the art project was delighted with the outcome, and said the children worked very hard and really enjoyed themselves learning a new skill.
Ruth has been a practicing sculptor since 1998 when she first set up ‘Sculpt it’ in Godalming. She can be contacted at [email protected].
