CHILDREN from Liphook’s infant and junior schools joined together to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday in style.

A dedicated band of staff and helpers led the children through a time tunnel journey of discovery, as they celebrated and commemorated every decade of the Queen’s life.

There was a 1930s style classroom created specially and activities included 1920s steam rides provided by Hollycombe, Digging for Victory and exploring WWII artefacts, pinning the crown on the corgi, learning about the 1960s’ moon landings, a 1970s disco, original electronic gaming from the 1980s, 1990s Cool Britannia, the 2012 Olympics and a street party to bring them up to date, where they tucked into cup cakes decorated by their own fair hands.

The day ended with a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday and God Save the Queen, with the schools’ choirs leading the singing.

Executive headteacher Michele Frost said: “What an amazing way to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.

“It was such a busy, fun-filled day and the children have learned a lot about the passage of time as well as what makes us British, while sharing a lots of laughter and, we hope, making a lot of memories.”
