CHILDREN, right through from reception class to year two, at St John’s School in Churt, have been busy in the kitchen baking.
Pupils have been designing and baking loaves, ranging from plaits to hedgehogs - an activity which has stretched across the whole curriculum with children taking on board maths counting and sharing concepts, calculating cooking times, working with a measure and finding out what makes dough rise.
Headteacher Ginnie Gregory said: “It’s fantastic to see the children involved in high-quality learning through such fun and creative ways.”
Many of the harvest loaves were brought along to St John’s Church last Friday morning, where the whole school community celebrated the harvest festival.
St John’s School is now preparing for its annual open day on Tuesday, October 18. The school will be welcoming prospective parents between 9.30am and 11.30am and from 1.30pm to 2.30pm.
