PUPILS from St Peter’s School in Farnham, raised £4,800 for the NSPCC in just one day, after being sponsored to dance to the Olympic Theme Tune on the hour throughout the day.
Deputy head Sarah Marshall said: “We were amazed at the amount raised by the children. It will go towards the excellent support provided by ChildLine and the NSPCC around the country.”
The music played on the hour from 9am through to 3pm with everyone from early years to year six dancing to the samba beat.
Mandy Elton, NSPCC representative, said: “The school council was very creative in deciding how they were going to raise the money and then so pro-active in organising the day. The pupils at St Peter’s really understand that their efforts combined with the support of families and friends who have sponsored them so generously, will have a real impact on other children’s lives.”
St Peter’s children also participated in age appropriate workshops and assemblies organised by the NSPCC to learn how to keep themselves safe.
Sarah added: “Everyone can empathise with the NSPCC’s work and I would really encourage other schools and groups to consider a dance-a-thon as a way of raising a substantial amount of money over a short time period for such vital work.”
