TEACHERS decided to trash a classroom at a Petersfield school this week to launch a rubbish project.

Dozens of pupils at Herne Junior School found their Love Lane classroom had been covered in cardboard and paper on Tuesday morning.

But it wasn't down to frustrated teachers or revolting cleaners, it was part of a bid to shock pupils into embracing a greener lifestyle.

Teachers covered the walls and windows in rubbish to launch a 10-week project on environmental and green issues.

They believed the mess would inspire year five pupils to "clean up their act" and come up with ways to tidy up the planet.

Teacher Michelle Armitage said the project included a pledge to carry out more recycling and an eco-sale with Petersfield Greening in March.
