PUPILS from Potters Gate School have designed an exhibition to help the Museum of Farnham celebrate the 300th anniversary of Willmer House, its West Street home since 1961.
The pupil’s exhibition focuses on 18th century Grade II-listed Willmer House’s former occupants, with year five pupils choosing the objects, writing interpretations and designing the exhibition.
One parent said: “My daughter took part and she loved it so much. It was the highlight of her week and wished she could do more!”
This collaboration between Farnham Museum and Potters Gate follows on from a Farnham Town Council-funded project, helping to teach children about working behind the scenes at a museum.
Olivia Wilkin is the year five teacher and said: “It was really nice to see the children excited about coming to the museum.
“The project has given us and them a massive insight into how an exhibition works and taught the children about presentation and to think more deeply about how other people see their work.
“It isn’t something that we would have ever thought to teach them ourselves and has definitely changed the way we will approach our own displays in the future, which we will now get the children to help out with.”
This is a special temporary exhibition which Mayor of Farnham, Mike Hodge, described as “an absolutely brilliant way to stimulate their brains and encourage them to get creative, there’s lots going on”.
