PUPILS from Liphook’s infant and junior schools have dressed up as their favourite story book characters to celebrate World Book Day.

Staff and pupils arrived looking magnificent in their outfits as a great deal of thought and imagination went on display. It was a great way to end a week-long celebration of literature, when the children shared their favourite books and junior school pupils read stories to the infants.

Michele Frost, headteacher of both village schools, said: “We have all enjoyed seeing the many marvellous costumes and are already looking forward to World Book Day next year.”

Meanwhile, children at Hollycombe Primary took part in a World Book Day poetry recital competition.

Headteacher Tamsin Austoni challenged her pupils to find a poem they loved and learn it off by heart in a bid to move away from just dressing up as literary characters.

“We wanted to put the focus back onto reading,” she said. “We are so impressed with the work the children have put into this in their free time. Well done to all who took part.”
