THERE have been big celebrations at Beacon Hill School, which not only enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get close to the real Premier League trophy but also has a national champion chef.

Pupils were thrilled by their Premier League visit on Monday, which was thanks to a school parent who won it as part of a Heart Radio competition prize.

The trophy was accompanied by cup ambassadors, as well as representatives from Fulham Football Club – including its enthusiastic mascot, Billy the Badger.

The high-profile visit at school assembly was underscored by a talk on the Premier League values of being ambitious, inspiring, connected and fair – and how they are also important for Beacon Hill students.

Pupils will continue to benefit from the prize, which also included a range of sports equipment and new books for the school library.

Beacon Hill is also celebrating its talented cook Josefine Austin beating offstiff competition nationally to come third in LACA School Chef of the Year 2019.

The judges were wowed by her Swedish meatballs and pineapple tart.

Pupils are looking forward to sharing a taste of her success – in the meantime, their favourite dishes are Josefine’s pizza and the traditional roast meal each Wednesday.

Headteacher Catherine Miller said: “We are delighted that Josefine has been so successful in the championships – it is a reflection of her continuing hard work and talent.

“Pupils and staff at Beacon Hill really enjoy the freshly-cooked meals she prepares for us each day of the school year.

The national finals of the flagship competition for school chefs were held on March 7 to showcase their professional skills.

Josefine battled nine fellow regional champions, and also two ‘wild card’ finalists for the title.

Contestants had a maximum of £1.30 to spend and 90 minutes to prepare, cook and serve an imaginative two-course school menu.
