MORE than 400 children lined-up at the start line for this year’s Farnham and Ash District Schools Cross Country races.

Farnham Park was a sea of colour as children aged seven to 11, representing 13 local schools, set off at an impressive pace, cheered on by parents, friends and even family dogs.

Karen Trafford, deputy head of St Polycarp’s, said: “As always there was a terrific turnout for this event which is always held on a Saturday.

“More and more schools are running The Daily Mile and we can see the impact here at the cross country.”

In the girls’ individual race, first place went to Lucy from St Polycarp’s followed by pupils from Shawfield and St Peter’s (full names not supplied), while in the girls’ team event South Farnham scooped the win ahead of St Polycarp’s and St Peter’s.

Jacob from Walsh School in Ash won the boys’ individual prize followed by pupils from St Peter’s and South Farnham (full names again not supplied), while Walsh also triumphed in the boys’ team event, beating St Peter’s into second and Waverley Abbey into third.

Having scored highly in all categories St Peter’s School won the Bell Cup for overall team performance, followed by St Polycarp’s and South Farnham.
