PUPILS from St Bartholomew’s Primary School, Camelsdale Primary School and Shottermill Junior School, among others rose to The Royal School’s annual Challenge Day.

In keeping with The Royal’s diamond education model, the girls and boys, all from year 5, had separate challenges. They worked in teams to complete four activities based around PE, drama, science and history. The winning teams were St Bartholomew’s yellow boys team and Elstead’s St James’ Primary School’s girls team.

Ian Senior, The Royal’s deputy principal, said: “This was the 24th year we have run a challenge day at the school. It is fantastic to see the unfailing enthusiasm the children have for the day. “The number of schools wanting to get involved is testament to how much the children enjoy the competition.”

• The Royal’s junior gardening club members showed off what they had achieved at a garden party, where guests enjoyed a fine spread of strawberries. Pupils also presented hanging baskets and decorative stone plaques to their parents after showing them the fruits of their efforts this year.

Junior School head Kerrie Daunter said: “The garden party, hosted by the children who attend our gardening club, was a real treat. It was delightful to be shown round by the children, who were so excited about their creations.  Their parents were thrilled to know what their children had been doing in the club.”
