FOND memories of a much-loved Camelsdale Primary School teacher have inspired an annual community walk to help keep her spirit alive.
Recently the school launched ‘Walk for Alfie’ in memory of his mother Clare Vedde, who was diagnosed with breast cancer months after his birth and who died in July 2016.
Alfie was just 15 months old when his mother died and to show how much she was loved, her school started an educational trust for her baby.
The school’s ‘Walk for Alfie’ across Marley and Lynchmere commons on Saturday, July 15, will raise money for the trust it set up to honour Mrs Vedde’s memory and the hope is it will be well supported and become a popular annual event.
Keats estate agency and Progress International have partnered with the school to establish the very first walk, and their directors attended Monday’s launch.
Headteacher Sarah Palmer said: “Clare was a wonderful person and a truly exceptional teacher who had so much enthusiasm for life and it shone through in her teaching. We all feel her loss and miss her.
“Walk for Alfie, is a way of keeping Clare’s spirit alive, while setting her son up for the future.
“I’m sure this is something Clare would have loved. We hope the day will be a real family occasion bringing members of the school and wider community together, enjoying the beautiful environment we live in, while helping establish the first funds for Alfie’s trust.
is something we plan to make into an annual event and bring people together.”
