CHRIS Goss's magical touch with the putter won her the World Wide Carpets Ladies Tournament.
The Camberley Heath player defeated Valerie Holton of Hankley Common in the final of this prestigious local competition.
After days of rain, it was touch and go whether the final would go ahead as scheduled at Blackmoor Golf Club and a phone call had to be made on the day to make sure the course was open. Luckily, it was and the match proceeded as planned.
The final was expertly refereed by Joan Lockie of Blackmoor and a large crowd followed the match round to its conclusion.
Both players started rather nervously, but it was Chris Goss who gained the upper hand and raced into a three-hole lead coming off the seventh green.
Valerie Holton recovered well and reduced the deficit to one hole at the halfway stage. However, the Camberley Heath member showed her fine form with some inspired putting.
On two occasions when Holton had short putts to bring the match level, Goss maintained her lead with her putting ability.
The game finally finished on the 16th, with Chris Goss victorious but Valerie Holton far from disgraced after an excellent contest.
At a post-match buffet, the players and guests were looked after superbly by the lady captain of Blackmoor and her committee.
Prize-giving was held at Camberley Heath at their ladies' Christmas lunch.
The defeated semi-finalists, Sheila McPherson (Oak Park) and Karen Duncan (West Hill), each received £100 in M&S vouchers and runner-up Valerie Holton won £200 in M&S vouchers.
Trophy winner Chris Goss, apart from receiving £300 in M&S vouchers, was able to select her two charities to which World Wide Carpets donated £1,000 and these were Chase and the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.
