A RIGHT royal celebration to mark Her Majesty’s 90th birthday was staged by St Mary’s Primary School, Chiddingfold, last Friday.

Cakes of the highest quality, which had been baked by the children and judged by Chiddingfold Women’s Institute, were served by years five and six pupils at a tea party attended by members of the village joint churches Cameo Club for older residents.

The cakes were also decorated in red, white and blue, or gold and silver, as were pupils and teachers, who had dressed up for the occasion.

Chiddingfold Parish Council chairman Richard Hogsflesh was guest of honour and presented every pupil with a commemorative coin, as a souvenir of a very special event.

“It all went very well,” head teacher Janis Radcliffe said. “The cakes were very carefully judged by the WI and prizes were awarded for the best. The children were very fortunate to receive a commemorative coin they can keep.

“Pupils made their own crowns, which they entered into a competition with prizes for the best, and year four did maypole dancing.

“The children also showed their parents the work they had done to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday and we all sang the National Anthem.

“The weather was lovely and we all dressed up. I came as the Queen, complete with white gloves.”
