AS more than half the schools in Hampshire report a decline in GCSE English results, head teachers are joining others across the country in supporting an enquiry into why the goal posts were moved halfway through the academic year.
While schools in Alton appear to have bucked the national trend which shows that GCSE results have fallen for the first time in the exam's 24-year history, some students have been shocked by poor English results.
Eggar's School headteacher, Ben Godber, says that although his school's results were very strong again this year, some students fell victim to the English marking "debacle".
He says the Government should act swiftly to rectify the situation.
