EMPLOYEES from Laleham Health and Beauty provided activities for residents of Alton’s Borovere Rest Home, part of The Greensleeves Homes Trust.
Activities co-ordinator Phil Gibbons contacted Janet Duggan at Community First after reading an article in a recent edition of the Alton Herald about the salon doing something similar at another care home in the area.
Mr Gibbons said: “We were so pleased to welcome the volunteers from Laleham Health and Beauty to Borovere where they had prepared a quiz and inundated us with cakes and treats.
“The residents really enjoyed the session with one particular lady saying ‘the quiz helped me to remember everything I had forgotten’.
“Members of the Laleham team also gave hand massages to the residents, which went down a treat.”
Reputed to be one of the largest employers in Alton, Laleham Health and Beauty is undertaking a programme of volunteering organised by Community First.
Operations director Don Johnson said of the activity afternoon: “We were really happy to be invited to Borovere. Our staff members enjoyed spending time with the older residents.
“In preparation for the session the team baked cakes and had lots of fun preparing the quiz.
“I would recommend any business getting involved with community volunteering as it’s great for inter-departmental team building and, of course, is in line with our corporate social responsibility.
“At Laleham we see volunteering as such an important aspect to our work that we have signed up for 2016, hoping to make a real impact in the community.”
