PEPER Harow Point to Point near Elstead enjoyed one of its best race days with around 5,000 people watching high quality racing and picnicking in glorious sunshine in spectacular parkland.
While other racing across the country was cancelled because of the hard ground, Peper Harow attracted a good field of runners for each race, thanks to the hard work of chief steward Richard Parker who made sure the going was good by watering the course.
‘Stroll Away Now’ ridden by Benedict Shaw won the first race for owner/trainer Andrew Waits from Beare Green, whose horse Rough Quest won the 1996 Grand National.
The Open Maiden Race for horses that had never won before gave trainer Catriona Kerruish from Rusper her first taste of success. She is a relative newcomer to training but wisely she put experienced Effingham jockey Phil York in charge of her good Irish prospect ‘Earl the Pearl’ and they notched up her first win.
Families also enjoyed browsing the 50 trade stands and the race day raised money for Riding for the Disabled. For more information go to: surreyptp.co.uk.
