IN June the Herald reported the launch of Heath Sound Vault, a new community internet radio and podcast station based at the Farnham Maltings.
In further developments, Heath Sound Vault and Farnham-based charity FATN Talking News have recently discussed the provision of local news for the new radio station.
From July 8, FATN began supplying recorded news items about local events to Heath Sound, which will use them to provide a news item each hour.
The agreement made between the two organisations was signed by Ann Newson, chair of FATN, and Paul Wisdom, Heath Sound Vault station manager (pictured left).
It adds to Heath Sound Vault’s current mix of first-person storytelling, children’s programmes, comedy, a travelogue, and specialist music. In May, The Herald also captured the sounds of the Farnham Castle by-elections for Sound Vault’s ‘Voices’ series.
Commenting on the new partnership with FATN, Charles Fearnley, the talking newspaper’s technical director, said :“We think this is a good fit for us both, and an excellent use of resources for two valuable local groups.”
FATN Talking News is a volunteer-run group, which provides a free recorded local news service from their Farnham studio for visually impaired local people.
Four different editions are recorded each week, covering the Farnham, Fleet, Alton, and Haslemere areas, and the surrounding villages.
Much of the material used is sourced from the Herald newspapers, and both FATN and Heath Sound would like to express their appreciation of the continued support provided by the Herald Group.
Heath Sound Vault can be found online at www.SoundVaultHQ.com, and anyone interested in receiving FATN’s local news service is encouraged to call 01252 719266 or visit www.fatntalkingnews.org.
