JANE Austen’s House Museum at Chawton will hit the limelight once again next week when it features on ‘Ramblings with Clare Balding’.

The popular BBC Radio 4 programme was recorded on February 2 when a trio from the museum joined the presenter on a district ramble.

Administrator Gill Stanton, collections volunteer Sue Dell, and trustee Martyn Dell accompanied Clare and her producer and sound recordist, Lucy Lunt, on a walk from Chawton to Farringdon and back along the disused railway line.

Copious amounts of conversation were recorded which will be reduced to a programme lasting just over 20 minutes.

Mr Dell said: “We were asked about what we loved about Jane Austen and working at the museum. We also spoke about the local area and why we love both Chawton and Alton.

“Clare Balding is a natural conversationalist and, like other great broadcasters, makes interviewing look deceptively easy.”

The programme is due to be broadcast at 3pm next Thursday, March 16, on BBC Radio 4 when, says Mr Dell, “it will, it is hoped, represent good coverage of the local area and events being arranged at the museum to mark the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen’s death”.
