FARNHAM commuters faced a long journey home on Friday evening after a succession of incidents wreaked havoc across the South West Trains network.

A broken down train at Woking station prompted a build-up of trains during the morning rush-hour and just after 9am a woman in her 60s suffered a head injury when she was hit by a train at Earlsfield station.

Combined, the two incidents prompted huge knock-on delays and cancellations for services travelling via Clapham Junction and Waterloo until around 8pm.

The issues were compounded by the single track between Farnham and Alton, causing delays of more than an hour for those waiting for trains at Farnham station.

A spokesman for South West Trains said the length of time trains were stationary meant trains and train crews were not in their correct location to start their next service.
