ENGINEERING works to rebuild the railway embankment in Wrecclesham are expected to last until at least the autumn, Network Rail has confirmed.
This solution involved stabilising the embankment and slightly re-routing the rails so that trains can run on the side furthest away from the embankment edge.
However, a permanent solution is yet to be found and geotechnical engineers are still investigating what caused the rock that forms the natural ridge to give way.
A Network Rail spokesperson told The Herald: “While trains are able to run at Wrecclesham, we’re still busy designing a long-term solution so that we can eventually move the track back over to the original side of the embankment.
“We expect to have the designs ready and to begin the process of rebuilding the embankment by August, with a view to moving the tracks back over in the autumn.
“I’d like to thank the local community for their patience while we carry out these repairs.”
