THIEVES caused thousands of pounds of damage when they reversed a car into the front of a Liss off-licence. Police say the ram-raid, which took place in the early hours of last Thursday morning, could be linked to a similar incident at Youngs newsagents in South Lane, Clanfield, on the same night. It is not yet clear whether anything was stolen during the two incidents. In Liss, a Vauxhall Belmont saloon car was reversed into the front of The Wine Rack on Station Road around 1-30 am, causing around £5,000 of damage. Pc Stephan West said: "The incident took place in the early hours of the morning, and there may not have been many people around at the time. "However, it is possible that someone saw this vehicle being driven to or from the area, or that someone may have seen or heard something unusual. "At this time it is unclear exactly what and how much was taken from the premises, as scenes-of- crime officers are still examining the scene. "This incident may be linked to a similar occurrence which took place at Youngs Newsagents in the early hours of Thursday, December 28. "I would urge anyone with any information about these incidents to make contact with the police at the earliest opportunity to ensure that those responsible can be located and dealt with." Anyone with information should contact Pc West at Alton police station on 0845 0454545, or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
