In requesting grant support, Alton Ramblers were seeking help with transportation to and from the airport for 12 visitors at an estimated cost of £45 per head.
While the 25-strong Alton Ramblers group has funds of its own, these are used to assist its work in clearing footpaths and maintaining stiles and gates.
In addition, only 10 per cent of the group will be involved in the town twinning initiative.
