A MAN from Farnham convicted of rape and the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl has appealed for his jail term to be reduced.

Adam Marchment, 25, of Greenhill Way, was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court on April 8 on one count of raping a female aged 16 or over and another of sexually assaulting a 14 year old while he was on bail for the first offence.

He pleaded guilty to the sexual assault on the first day of his trial, and was found guilty of the rape four days later and sentenced to a total of 10 years in prison, plus an extra four years on licence after his release.

But last Thursday, lawyers representing Marchment applied for the Court of Appeal to reduce his sentence - arguing the judge “erred” in ruling him dangerous in April.

Lord Justice Lloyd Jones agreed Marchment’s case was “arguable” and granted leave for a full appeal hearing to take place in due course.

The Farnham man’s conviction came after a high-profile time on the run from police, in which he taunted detectives on social media before eventually handing himself in.

Marchment has a chequered history with the courts and previously served time in Highdown Prison in 2014.

As well as his latest custodial sentence for rape, he was also handed a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years and ordered to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely.
