LISS Athletic recorded their best ever win in the Hampshire Premier League on Tuesday night at the Newman Collard ground.

Even more encouraging was the fact that their opponents were lying in fourth position at kick-off.

Despite some early rocky moments, Liss played the better football and were 3-0 up at half-time courtesy of strikes from Steve Harding, Rudi Sumann and Jon Noble, all created by the outstanding Paul Jays.

Locks Heath came at Liss for the first 15 minutes of the second half, but the defensive five of goalkeeper Glasspool, Burrows, Martin, Morley and Sean Noble held firm and Athletic always looked threatening on the counter-attack.

Good midfield play by Jon Noble and Ricky Long ensured good supply to the wide men and Liss scored four more goals through Matt Rayner, Richie McGann and Steve Harding, who added two more to complete his hat-trick.

Manager Tim Potter, a defensive legend in his playing days, was no doubt equally pleased with the clean sheet that went alongside Liss's seven goals.

l Liss, who are up to ninth in the table, gave third-placed Vospers a run for their money on Saturday. A lone goal by Jason Hurst eventually gave Vospers the points.

l Liss Athletic urgently require a secretary in time for the beginning of next season. The club is also seeking Saturday morning workers for barrier and net erection (good rates of pay offered). Anyone interested should contact Mick Alder on 01730 893505.
