FARNHAM had managed to beat Reading Town with only 10 men last week, but two red cards proved too much for the visitors on Saturday, although Walton Casuals were made to struggle for their narrow victory.

The dismissals of Adam Rivett (30 mins) and Kevin Annetts (61) left Farnham's nine men with a hopeless task, although they had been at full strength when Casuals scored the only goal of the game.

With a morale-boosting win under their belts, Farnham had high hopes of getting a result against Walton who were only one place above them in the league table.

But chances were at a premium in the first half as play flowed from end to end, with both sides guilty of over-hitting the final pass.

However, Casuals made the breakthrough with an excellent goal after only 12 minutes. A free-kick by defender Paul Roberts found Craig Carley who, after a nice bit of control on the right, crashed a spectacular 25-yard shot into the top corner.

Farnham were still trying to settle down when Rivett was dismissed, allegedly for stamping.

That left Town 15 minutes to negotiate before the sanctuary of half-time and they survived, but only thanks to Daniel Vasey's superb double save from Carley.

The second half continued with Walton enjoying plenty of possession, but rarely threatening a disciplined Farnham defence, with young Vasey again impressing in goal.

And there was always the chance of a goal on the counter-attack as Town soaked up the pressure.

But their hopes took a nosedive on the hour when Kevin Annetts was also sent off by referee Shane Thompson for kicking out at his opponent.

The home side had ample chances to put the result beyond doubt, but Emmerson Barr-James shot wide and the same player was denied by Vasey's fine diving save.

Carley also wasted an opening to score his second and was then foiled by Vasey's brave blocking save in the final minutes.

Town's nine men never let their heads drop, but it was an unequal contest and Casuals did just enough to win.

Farnham: Vasey, Brooks, D Evans (Miles), Brown, Haskell, Castle, C Evans (Grimes), Rivett, Morgan, Annetts, Hooper (Edwards).

Town youngster Adam Rivett was unjustifiably sent off, according to manager Dave Ward. "He came down on the player, but was just trying to get out of the way of a tackle. The referee totally mis-read the situation. There was no intent – he is not that sort of player."

"Kevin kicked out in frustration. It was handbag stuff and a red card was harsh, but that's the penalty these days if you raise your hands or feet."

Farnham are home to North Greenford, one of Ward's former clubs, this Saturday.

Farnham will be appealing against a 112-day ban for Chris Castle, recently dismissed for head-butting. Castle had never been sent off or been booked before.
