A cruel piece of luck denied Farnham what would have been a deserved Combined Counties League point at Feltham on Saturday.

With only eight minutes left, Farnham were soaking up the home team's pressure with some confidence.

Then fate took a hand. An attempted clearance hit the referee on the back of the legs and the ball rebounded between Farnham's central defenders to Abby Nsubuga who snapped up his second goal for Feltham.

Farnham had adapted well to Feltham's artificial pitch, but the strong wind blowing straight down the ground made it a game of two halves.

The former Ryman League club have lost only one match to the weather, thanks to their plastic surface, but were outplayed in the first 45 minutes by Farnham's fast improving side.

The visitors took a deserved lead 10 minutes before half-time. A free-kick caused a mix-up in the Feltham defence and full-back Paul Hatton, having had his first shot blocked by the 'keeper, followed in to put away the loose ball.

Hatton almost made it 2-0 before the break and, as the second half got underway, it became evident that one goal was not enough.

Feltham, with the gale behind them, had all the play and equalised after 10 minutes when the exotically named Nsubuga, a local boy, headed home after a fluent four-man move.

Farnham were now under the cosh, yet they had a great chance to restore their lead when, counter-attacking from a Feltham free-kick, Craig Wright sent Joe Banks clear. He shot under the 'keeper, but the ball took enough of a deflection to send it wide of the goal.

Just as Farnham seemed to be weathering the storm, the referee got in the way and Feltham accepted a gift goal to win the game.
