EAST Hampshire District Council (EHDC) is calling on people to play a role in Britain’s historic referendum on the European Union by signing up to work as a poll clerk.

EHDC, which is running the election in this area, is appealing for more staff to help man the polling stations on June 23.

The elections team is particularly looking for clerks to cover polling stations in Alton, Whitehill and Bordon, Liphook, and the surrounding villages. Around 40 poll clerks are needed to fill the vacant positions.

Sandy Hopkins, EHDC’s returning officer, said: “The EU referendum will have huge ramifications for the future of the UK and I would urge everyone to find out the arguments for and against and use their vote.

“People also have the chance to say they took part in the vote by working in our polling stations around the district, ensuring this historic democratic event runs smoothly in East Hampshire.”

The role of poll clerk is a paid position and training is provided. Clerks will work from the opening of the polls at 7am to the close at 10pm.
