RESIDENTS will be able to pay their respects to those who lost their lives in conflict at commemorations in and around Haslemere this Sunday.

Following the 10am service at St Bartholomew’s Church, a parade will set off at 10.30am to the High Street war memorial, where civic services will commence at 10.55am followed by a two-minute silence and the laying of wreaths.

All three 1st Camelsdale sections – beavers, cubs and scouts, as well as the local explorer group, guides, brownies and rainbows will be led by a bagpiper in their parade at 10.30am from the scout hut on Marley Lane to Shottermill War Memorial, ready for the civic service that starts just before 11am.

Chiddingfold is pulling out all the stops on Sunday to celebrate almost the full crew of its affiliated Royal Navy ship joining the commemorations.

A parade of HMS Chiddingfold crew and uniformed groups willl march from the village hall at 9am to St Mary’s Church for the 9.30am service.

Following the civic service at the church war memorial just before 11am, there will be a special reception at the village hall hosted by the parish council with support from St Mary’s, Chiddingfold Womens Royal British Legion, and the village hall.

There will be displays by the crew, Chiddingfold Archive, St Mary’s School and Chiddingfold Village Nursery.

Chiddingfold Village Hall was originally built as a memorial to those from the village who died in the First World War and it is celebrating its centenary this year.
