AN angry resident has complained about having to pay parking charges on Remembrance Sunday.
Linda Schofield had driven into town to attend the Remembrance Sunday service at The Cairn, and to watch her grandson – a Cub with the 8th Alton pack – take part in his first parade, marching through the town alongside youngsters from other uniformed youth organisations and from the armed and emergency services.
Having expected to receive free parking on such a day, Mrs Schofield was "appalled" to find she was required to pay.
In a letter to the Herald this week she writes: "Surely East Hampshire District Council could have allowed a two-hour slot to park free for this important occasion."
