A BID to repair a signpost next to a Petersfield beauty spot has left some town councillors looking for direction.

Petersfield Town Council would like the rusting signpost by the north east corner of The Heath to be refurbished.

They would like Hampshire County Council to fund the repairs, as they are responsible for maintaining the post.

An East Hampshire firm has offered to repair the post and to install three new aluminium finger arms for £1,625.

But town councillors fear they are asking too much from the county council, especially as the latter has only offered £400 toward a new sign.
