FARNHAM Repair Cafe will return next week having diverted more than half a tonne from landfill since launching in February 2015.
The monthly cafe, run by the Centre for Sustainable Design at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) in collaboration with Transition Town Farnham, invites people to bring along broken domestic items to be fixed by volunteer repairers, and receive advice from sustainability experts.
Over the past 18 months, the cafe has attracted 684 visitors and completed 181 successful repairs (a repair rate of 63 per cent), diverting 628kg from landfill at a potential saving to the taxpayer of £12,561.
The next workshop will take place from 10am to 12.30pm on Saturday, October 8, at the Farnham United Reformed Church in South Street.
All are invited to bring along everything from broken textiles and domestic electronics to bikes and furniture to get fixed and “share in the repair”.
