FARNHAM Repair Cafe (FRC), established in 2015 to help protect the environment by reducing waste disposal and combating in-built product obsolescence, is relaunching this Saturday, September 9, after being granted charity status.
FRC, a collaboration between The Centre for Sustainable Design, University for the Creative Arts, Farnham Town Council and Farnham United Reformed Church, has completed more than 300 repairs over the past two years at a 63 per cent success rate, preventing around one tonne of old and damaged products from going to landfill, and saving an estimated 8.3 tonnes of CO2.
Product owners bring their broken or damaged products which are then assessed - and repaired, where possible - by volunteers.
FRC has repair stations for household products: electronics/electrical, mechanicals, laptops, bicycles, clothing/textiles and furniture.
Most of the successful repairs have been completed on clothing/textiles and electronics/electrical devices.
Each session is open every second Saturday of the month between 10am and 1pm and offers advice and repairs on all kinds of products.
