A PLANNING inspector has dismissed an appeal into an application for the demolition of a detached dwelling and erection of another, within the Isington conservation area.
The application, made by Ms Alexandra O’Connor, for the demolition and rebuilding of Bridge Cottage, on Isington Road, was turned down by East Hampshire District Council last August on grounds that “it would lead to substantial harm to the conservation area and fail to preserve or enhance the character or appearance of that area, since the total loss of the non-designated heritage asset and its proposed replacement would not have a substantial public benefit to outweigh the loss, or would not be satisfactorily mitigated”.
It was a view upheld by inspector SJ Buckingham, who dismissed the appeal on those grounds.
