THE Ministry of Defence plans to close the main car park serving Hankley and Elstead commons, dramatically restricting access to the local beauty spot according to local residents.

Users of the common are in uproar over the imminent closure of the 'Dropping Zone' car park, which they say only became apparent when Landmarc - the MOD's land management agency - was challenged.

The MOD has since confirmed the rumours, adding it plans to open an alternative parking area, believed to be at the former Polish Camp off Thursley Road.
