Haslemere gave a good performance against a fast and skilful Wanderers side, but another defeat leaves them still languishing at the foot of the table.
That the Blues failed to obtain any points was due once again to brief lapses in concentration – the product of inexperience – and a lack of finishing power.
Wanderers took an early lead after some poor defence by the home side and added to it after a raking move which started in their own 25.
However, some quick, slick passing, inspired by Patel and skipper Danny Clarke, led to sustained pressure under which Wanderers conceded a penalty flick, converted with aplomb by Clarke himself just before half-time.
In the second half, Wanderers continued to enjoy the bulk of possession and scoring chances, but were kept at bay by resolute defending from Tibbits, David Mayson and Jules Porter, and by the excellence of Adrian Law in goal.
At the other end, Tony Mayson and a hard-working Neil Dodson failed only by inches to equalise after the visitors' defence had been carved open.
But Wanderers sealed their victory with a follow-up after a fierce reverse shot had been well saved by Law.
A fortnight before, Haslemere had staged a splendid fight-back to hold leaders Spencer to a 4-4 draw.
