ST Andrew’s Parish Church in Farnham will welcome the return of accomplished organist John Belcher for its monthly lunchtime recital on Tuesday, April 12, at 1.10pm.
John studied with Sir John Dykes Bowers at the Royal College and Sir David Willcocks at Cambridge, and has held various appointments including St Peter’s Bournemouth, Tewkesbury Abbey, St Asaph Cathedral and Chichester Cathedral.
He has given recitals in many important venues in Britain, and made recordings on the organs of Tewkesbury Abbey and Godalming Parish Church where he has been organist since 1996.
He was for a time organ adviser to the Diocese of Portsmouth and for nearly 20 years an examiner with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
In 2008, he was elected to an Honorary Fellowship of the Guild of Church Musicians for his “Great contribution to church music over many years”.
John Belcher’s programme will open with Handel’s Concerto No.5 in F (Cuckoo & Nightingale) - 1st movement Adagio - Allegro followed by Air with Eight Variations by William Felton.
The programme will include Schmucke dich, o liebe Seele attributed to JS Bach, Offertoire for Easter by Alexandre Boely, Robert Schumann’s Two Sketches, the Intermezzo by Josef Rheinberger ending with Deni Bedard’s Sortie (from ‘Suite Liturgique’).
St Andrew’s recitals starts at 1.10pm on the second Tuesday of each month and last about 45 minutes.
Refreshments are available or you may wish to take your own lunch. The retiring collection which goes towards the expenses. All are welcome.
