TOWN councillors have made yet another call for a full-scale rethink on parking restrictions in residential roads throughout Petersfield. The planning committee examined proposals for waiting restrictions in Borough Road and Alderfield. They were told the individual roads were being looked at ahead of a major project in Petersfield because there had been an accident there. Commuters and shoppers were parking in dangerous parts of Borough Road on the bend, which had long concerned the town's police and traffic wardens. But the rest of the town will not be examined until at least 2009 because of funding shortages at Hampshire County Council. Chris Jenner told fellow councillors: "We know why the county is doing this, but it is not going to solve parking (problems) in Petersfield. These people will now park in someone else's road – in Noreuil Road, Rushes Road or Gloucester Court. "What thoughts have they given to the effects this will have on the people who live in the roads where these motorists will move to now – in the next set of residential streets that will be blighted?" he asked. While they accepted the need for action in Borough Road, councillors have pointed out to hampshire County Council that there is an urgent need to examine parking across the whole town.
