PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle were the toast of Frensham as they celebrated the wedding of close friends Charlie van Straubenzee and local girl Daisy Jenks at St Mary’s Church last Saturday.
The newly wed Duke of Sussex was the best man to childhood friend Charlie, who married Churt born-and-bred Daisy in a “joyful” ceremony at the village church.
Members of the public began gathering outside the church from 11am hoping to catch a glimpse of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. And shortly before 3.30pm guests, including Princess Eugenie and her fiancé Jack Brooksbank, arrived and mingled in the church yard.
Harry and Meghan arrived separately, the Duke in a vintage bus with the groomsmen, and managed to slip past many of the patient well-wishers. Before being reunited inside the church with her husband, who was busy with best man duties, Meghan chatted with friends and waved to photographers.
After the ceremony, there was a loud cheer as the Duke and Duchess exited the church, while groom Charlie whisked away his beautiful bride on a bicycle with a pedicab prior to the wedding reception at the Jenks family home in Jumps Road, Churt.
A spokesperson for St Mary’s said: “Well done Team St Mary’s for coping with our society wedding. It was a well organised and joyful occasion and we wish Mr and Mrs Charlie van Straubenzee every blessing in their marriage.”
