RIKKE Askew of Farnham Boxing Club was victorious as he jumped back in the ring for his first pro fight in the home corner at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London.
The place erupted as he passed through the smoke clouds and made his ring walk to the sounds of Queen’s We will rock you.
Rikke entered the ring weighing 11 stone seven pounds, having lost almost two stone for the fight. His opponent Dean Croft weighed in slightly heavier. The fight went the scheduled four, three-minute rounds and was a gentlemanly bout.
The place erupted once more when the referee raised Rikke’s hand at the end to announce him the winner by points.
“It was a great turn out with almost 200 supporters there just to see Rikke. He was extremely grateful to all of those who bought a ticket, and made the journey to London. He said “it’s the first time he did not feel alone in the ring”. said Alice Askew, who deals with admin and marketing at the Farnham Boxing Club.
“We are all extremely proud of him, and it’s great to see his extensive training pay off. He is due to fight again on Saturday, July 8, if anyone would like to get in touch for tickets email farn
[email protected]. There is a video of the fight on our YouTube channel: Farnham Boxing.”
The team are now preparing for Tom Easton’s book launch on Saturday, April 22, 6pm to 9pm, at Brambleton Hall, Talbot Road.
Tom is one of the club’s members and a published author, his latest book is based around a young boxer and her experiences in a boxing club.
Tom used Farnham Boxing Club for research and inspiration, even loosely basing one of the coaches on Rikke.
