A RIVAL plan for 275 houses on the Causeway at Petersfield has been submitted to East Hampshire District Council after claims that new government guidelines have thrown the future of the proposed Ramshill development site into doubt.

A spokesman for the district council confirmed on Wednesday that an outline planning application had been received for 275 houses on the Causeway which included the building of a primary school, community centre, public open space and riverside footpath.

The plan has been submitted by Hawthorne Camm Planning Consultants on behalf of Phillips Build Ltd.

The spokesman said the district council had not been able to register the plan because it was invalid due to the fact that it did not contain enough information to allow determination.

The plan for the Causeway follows controversy over the proposed application which has been submitted for 276 houses on Ramshill by Bryant Homes.

The action group, RADAR (Residents Against Development at Ramshill) was formed to fight the plans.

This week its planning adviser, Ron Tate said the new government planning guidance (PPG 3) meant that planners had to Òreview all existing planning consents for housing and all allocated sites against a set of criteria related to issues of sustainability.Ó

He said the fact that Bryant Homes submitted plans for Ramshill two years ago and have continued talks led to the current plan was Òirrelevant.Ó
