A DEBATE is raging as to whether cyclists, especially those taking part in time trials, should be allowed on some of Surrey and Hampshire's busiest roads.

Cycling has boomed in popularity over the past year, thanks largely to Britain's success in the Tour de France and the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

But it seems some drivers are unimpressed by the growing number of cyclists on the road - particularly on the A31 between Farnham and Alton.

The cycling fraternity has offered a staunch defence of its sport, however, and a fierce debate has occupied The Herald's letters page over the past month.
